What's Happening in Louisville, KY…

Brinkley returns to care for new health org

Former Louisville health care executive, Ruth W. Brinkley, is returning to Kentucky to head up the new health organization born of a union between the Jewish Hospital, St. Mary’s HealthCare and St. Joseph Health System.

The 59-year-old Brinkley was recently named CEO of KentuckyOne Health and returns to Kentucky from a posting in southern Arizona at Carondelet Health Network where she managed four hospitals and 5,000 plus employees.

Following the announcement at a recent press conference, Brinkley described her pleasure at returning to Kentucky.

“The vision for this community is one of the most exciting opportunities in health care today,” she told reporters.

Originally from Georgia, Brinkley was once employed by Denver-based Catholic Health Initiatives, which owns St. Joseph and is also the majority share owner of the newly created KentuckyOne. She worked in Louisville, supervising six health systems for CHI in her role as group vice-president.

Brinkley’s time with CHI included five years in Louisville as a group vice president overseeing six health systems.

The new CEO is a registered nurse with a master’s in nursing from De Paul University in Chicago.

In addition to her executive posts at CHI, Brinkley has worked as a consultant for CSC Healthcare, as chief executive of Memorial Health Care System in Tennessee and held the position of associate dean at Birmingham Hospital at the University of Alabama, the largest academic medical center in the U.S.

It is yet to be determined whether KentuckyOne offices will be in Louisville or not. Once a location is announced, business cards and stationery printing will get underway to help launch the new group.
