Brave Kentuckians to take the Polar Plunge

Louisville will host the 2015 Polar Plunge tomorrow in support of the Special Olympics KY.

Celebrating the 17th year in Kentucky, The Polar Plunge has raised over $6.5m for the KY Special Olympics programs.

The Chill of a Lifetime, as the event is fondly referred to, brings participants and spectators from across the region to take the plunge. Gathering at the Brown-Forman Amphitheater located at Waterfront Park near the Big Four Bridge, more than 1,300 people are expected to chill their bodies in the Ohio River.

Similar to a walk-a-thon, the participants, otherwise known as ‘Polar Bears’, pay a minimum of $75 to take the dip. Each ‘Bear’ receives a Polar Plunge T-shirt and a Polar Bear Club Certificate.

The male and female raising the most money will earn the prestigious title of King and Queen of the Plunge. Younger fundraisers get to be named Princess and Prince.

Banner printing will produce signage for events of this nature to point out parking and other central points.

Those wishing to raise funds but hesitant to take the plunge may join the ‘Too Chicken to Plunge’ group. The fundraising fee is $75 or $50 for Junior Chickens. Participants at this level will receive a ‘Too Chicken to Plunge’ T-shirt and as more funds are raised, they will enjoy the same Plunge merchandise as earned by the Polar Bears.

The 2015 Polar Plunge will take place February 28.
