The holiday season was in full swing at the Laurel County Public Library in London on Thursday, December 11.
The Children's Theatre of Cincinnati traveled all the way from Ohio to the library to put on an adaptation of ‘The Night Before Christmas’, by Clement Clark Moore. Fitting the library's Holiday Celebration, the play offered a heartwarming message mixed with a degree of humor.
The play is part of the theater's ‘Artreach’ program. The theater tours the play to a number of different venues, such as public parks and libraries, throughout the season. When it is not the holidays, the traveling theater troupe performs other plays, such as ‘The Wind in the Willows’.
Both adults and young people were in the audience for the play on Thursday. The plot of the performance focused on Ben Jr., a 13-year-old with a similar attitude to Ebenezer Scrooge. Over the course of the 60-minute play, Ben learns the meaning of the holiday, after being visited by an elf, Santa, and the Sugar Plum Fairy. Family members, such as his dad and sister, also play a part in his transformation.
A highlight of the performance was having the audience sing along to a number of popular Christmas songs.
‘The Night Before Christmas’ was just one part of the library's Holiday Celebration. It can use flyer printing to promote the other scheduled events, such as pianist Earlane Vance, who will play tomorrow, December 17, at 1:00 pm.
