London workshop welcomes beginners to backyard chickens

Keeping backyard chickens is an option that can be enjoyed by both rural and suburban homeowners, and an upcoming evening workshop will provide an insider’s view of the process for setting up a flock.

Anyone interested in learning the basics of backyard chicken care is invited to sign up for this in-person class that will cover keeping chickens on a small scale. The registration fee is $5, and the Laurel County Extension Office in London will be the venue for the activity.

The attendees will find out what these poultry birds require, and whether or not they are a good fit for their property and budget. Tips for setting up a coop with suitable housing and how to keep the flock well fed will be shared.

Part of the Extension Family and Consumer Sciences program list, the event will be geared towards the local area. It may be a good fit for those who are new to backyard animal husbandry.

A workshop that introduces a topic often sees information kits handed out to the attendees. These can include promotional Pens and other materials prepared by a brochure printing company.

Residents of London and the surrounding areas who would like to welcome some hens and roosters to their property should make time for this on Monday, March 30. It will begin at 6:00 pm at 200 County Extension Road.
