State park in London celebrates arts and crafts

The focus of the Mountain Life Museum will shift slightly this weekend when it plays host to current artists, performers, and crafters from Appalachia.

The museum is set to hold an arts and crafts fair. The state park could use postcard printing to let people know about the event, be they London locals or visitors who may be camping in the park area that weekend.

Nestled in the hilly woods of London, Levi Jackson state park is set up as a tribute to the people who settle the area centuries ago. The museum is part of the park and demonstrates the reality of pioneer life to a modern audience.

Among the highlights of the craft fair is an appearance by Rob Peterson, who creates works of art from trees using a chainsaw to carve out figures and shapes. A number of other local artisans and musicians will be on hand, offering demonstrations of their work or performing musical numbers.

During the craft fair, visitors will also have the opportunity to explore the cabins and settings that make up the Mountain Life Museum. A number of authentic objects, such as farm tools and household items, are scattered throughout the museum. Visitors can also browse the gift shop, which will feature objects for sale from local crafters and artisans.

Admission to the event is $1 per person, and it takes place this Saturday, August 16, from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm.
