London soap company strikes a clean deal

For Rock Bottom Stables and Soap Company, the dream of hitting the next step came true this month. The supermarket chain Kroger began carrying the company's body butters and soaps in each of its stores throughout the state on November 6.

Kroger placed a big order with the London-based company for 2,400 body butter products and 2,400 soap bars. The owners of Rock Bottom, Wes McFadden and Amy Henson, plus an assortment of their friends and family, worked through the night to get the soaps and body butters packaged and ready to go to the stores. The products have since been distributed to 88 Kroger stores in Kentucky.

Amy Henson told the Sentinel-Echo that the pair was not quite prepared for the size of the Kroger order. Describing it as “exciting and unbelievable” she noted that the size of Kroger's order was the same as the amount the company sold all last year.

The owners of the soap company have participated in a commercial for Kentucky Proud, the marketing arm of the Kentucky Department of Agriculture. They could also consider using a printing company to highlight the soaps on offer.

An interesting ingredient in Rock Bottom Stable's soap is goat's milk, from the couple's herd of 20 Nubian goats. The company expects to continue to sell its products at Kroger stores through the holidays. To keep up with the increased demand, McFadden and Henson have ordered extra equipment.
