Foraging provides a way to make use of food sources found in nature, and London residents who would like to get started are encouraged to register for an upcoming outing.
The Hungry Forager has made arrangements to facilitate an outdoor workshop that will offer hands-on experience at finding food in the wild. The group will visit Daniel Boone National Forest, and it was noted that it can be a good choice for those who are new to the practice.
The late summer excursion will look for edible mushrooms as well as late season fruit, and native species of nuts may also be on the menu. The route will be about three miles, and everyone will learn what tools to bring along when they go for a forage. Ethical harvesting practices will be introduced and followed, and everyone who takes part will have an opportunity to discover more about fungi and the role they play in the overall health of the environment.
When foraging for fungi in the wild, it is usually important to be well versed in mushroom identification. A printer will be able to prepare materials that can help with this by creating guides using brochure printing and other techniques.
This introduction to the art and scene of forging for wild food will be offered on September 3. Additional details have been added to its Facebook listing for anyone who wants to find out more.
