London hospital hosts annual Maternity Fair

To help new parents navigate the many changes in their lives, KentuckyOne Healthcare - Saint Joseph London has been holding an annual Maternity Fair for the past 15 years. This year's fair took place on June 10, from 5:30 until 8:30pm.

Designed to be an informative evening both for expectant parents and for parents of children up to the age of six months, the event featured a number of lectures and speakers, plus snacks and prizes.

Given the season, one of the more timely talks during the maternity fair came from the London Police Department. Parents leaving children in hot cars is a major issue each year; in 2015, there more than 30 reports of kids being left in cars alone. During their talk, the police not only covered the importance of not leaving a child alone in a parked car, but also the importance of child car seat safety.

In June of 2015, the state passed a booster seat law. Now, every child under age 8 or shorter than 57 inches needs to be strapped into a booster seat during car rides.

The fair wasn't all lectures and talks, though; a drawing for prizes started near the end of the event, around 8:15pm. The grand prize this year was a $500 gift card to Babies-R-Us.
To spread the word, flyer printing is often used in the lead-up to fairs like this.
