On July 8, the city was named the fifth ‘Kentucky Trail Town’, during a ceremony that took place at the London-Laurel County Farmers' Market. More than 500 people attended the event, including the First Lady of Kentucky Jane Beshear and a number of other government officials.
Beshear was labeled as the "driving force behind adventure tourism in Kentucky" at the ceremony. She had words of high praise for the city, saying:
"People are looking all over to get outside for excitement, and you have it right here... You are now recognizing what you now have to offer. You are now our fifth official 'Kentucky Trail Town." . . . You're at the front of the line."
London can use banner printing to celebrate its new status as a Trail Town. The program, which is just four years old, aims to pair up communities with trail systems. It also helps turn sites and cities into desirable places for people to visit.
In each city, the program works with artists, local restaurants and other other local businesses to highlight what makes the city unique. For example, London has plenty to offer cyclists, from 140 miles of bike trails to the annual Rosebud Ride.
