Recognizing that not every family can afford new shoes for their children, and that comfortable, functional shoes are a must-have for many, the Laurel County Kiwanis Club in London has collected hundreds of pairs of shoes for area students.
The club began the shoe collection drive at the start of August. According to Roger Witt, the president of the Kiwanis Club, the goal was to collect 500 pairs by the end of September. By the first week of this month, however, the club had already nearly reached this goal.
On September 4, the club delivered 410 pairs of shoes to the directors of the family resource centers at East Bernstadt Independent Schools and Laurel County Public Schools. The directors collected the shoes to give out to their students as needed.
Citing the initial success of the ‘Shoes for Kids’ program, the Kiwanis Club has increased its goal to 1,000 shoes by the end of September. It could use a local graphic design and Print company to get the word out about the shoe drive to people who might not have heard about it yet, and to advertise the location of drop Boxes. Area businesses such as the London Utility Commission, WalMart, and Kmart have made donations and have drop Boxes for people to put their own footwear donations.Get a Free Quote for Print Get a Free Quote for Boxes
