London becomes latest Kentucky Trail Town

The community of London has been granted a designation that sets it apart from the crowd.

The town, along with Stearrns, has been named a Kentucky Trail town. The First Lady Jane Bashear was on hand at a recent ceremony that was held in the area to make the announcement that it had been chosen.

The program, which was developed to help encourage trail use and promote tourism, helps to draw attention to the local businesses, such as bed and breakfasts and other lodging establishments, restaurants, stores, and shops. It also promotes artists form the community. It does this by ensuring that the environment is as inviting as possible to travelers and other stakeholders.

A secondary benefit of the program is that it helps to encourage a healthy lifestyle among the community’s residents by providing them with easy access to a variety of recreational opportunities right in their own backyards.

The Office of Adventure Tourism and the Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet, will now take a hand in marketing London as a tourist destination. It will provide items like signage and other promotional materials, website placement, and maps. A catalog printing firm will be able to create guidebooks for those who wish to visit the area.

So far, 40 different towns have been granted the designation of being a Kentucky Trail Town.
