The Laurel-London Tourism Commission has seen a record number of early registrations for its annual Redbud Ride.
Though the event is not scheduled to take place until the end of April, organizers have already had more than 300 people sign up to participate.
By January 5, 345 people had registered for the race, according to Rodney Hendrickson, the co-executive director for the commission. Speaking to the Sentinel Echo, he noted that about half of the registrants are first-time riders. He went on to add that the goal for the year is to break the record set last year, when more than 1,200 cyclists signed up.
The commission may be able to get more people to sign up by using brochure printers to produce pamphlets with information on the race. The Brochures can be brought to local bike or sports shops.
Organizers encouraged early signups by offering reduced registration fees. Those who signed up by the end of 2014 were able to do so for just $25. The price then jumped to $30 and will keep going up by $5 at certain intervals until the day of the ride. Having people sign up early gives the organization time to plan for the race and make sure it has the number of volunteers and staffers it needs to run the event.
The race will be held on April 25.Get a Free Quote for Brochures
