Annual event returns to celebrate summer

A yearly festival is returning to a nearby town in early August, and Schererville residents are sure to have some fun attending the event.

The Lake County Fair is a festival made up of a mix of activities set up to highlight animals, music, food, farming and gardening, rodeo, artisans, rides, and other performers. The event is put together by the Lake County Agricultural Society.

Some of the contests and displays relating to animals put the spotlight on creatures such as rabbits, horses, goats, cows, chickens, and sheep.

A number of vendors and exhibitors will be set up around the venue offering food to eat, handmade items to buy, and interactive experiences to try.

Carnival rides and games will also be included. A wristband for unlimited access is $30 for each date of the festival, with the exception of the last day, where these will cost $20. A preview day on July 31 will have the bands for $15.

Admission to the fair is free until 3:00 pm from Monday to Thursday. Otherwise, everyone 11 and older will have a fee of $8, which needs to be paid in cash. The preview date will have a reduced cost of $5. The venue, the Lake County Fairgrounds, has free parking. Tickets to events at The Grandstand are between $13.56 and $16.95 online.

The main event will be running from August 1 to 10. The fairgrounds are in Crown Point, a short distance from Schererville. Flyer printing is a common promotion technique for many county fairs. The festivities will run each day starting at 9:00am.
