Peoples Resource Center asks community for technology donations

The Microsoft Store in Oak Brook, just a short distance from Oakbrook Terrace, will be holding a technology and computer drive to benefit the People’s Resource Center (PRC).

The community is asked to donate new or used computers, tablets, and electronic accessories such as mice, monitors, and keyboards, all of which will go to the PRC. The Center holds training classes on computers at no cost to adults who live in DuPage County. Once they have completed seven hours of in-class computer training, they can receive a free and fully refurbished computer. Installed on it are Windows and Microsoft Office 2010 Home and Business.

According to Meg Wright, Community Development Specialist for Microsoft, the Microsoft Store and the People's Resource Center work together in this training effort. As a Microsoft Registered Refurbisher, the PRC can install Microsoft Office software on all computers distributed to its clients. The PRC also has volunteers with backgrounds in information technology, and they are also able to repair computers, evaluate donated ones, remove data, and update systems with Microsoft products.

The technology drive will be held this Saturday, August 15, from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm. The use of poster printing and distribution is one way the store can publicize this event and gather as many donations as possible on the day.
