What's Happening in Oakbrook Terrace, IL…

A grant of $600,000 from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources is being used for plans to make improvements at McCullom Park in Downer’s Grove.

This money is part of the Open Space Land Acquisition and Development funding, which more than 100 park districts received to help create more recreational opportunities in local communities.

Residents of nearby Oakbrook Terrace might be interested in such improvements so their children can make better use of the park once the work has been completed.

One of the improvements will be to convert the center courts, which have been used as flexible courts, into eight pickleball courts. Shade structures will be installed next to the course. As this work is currently taking place, the center courts are temporarily closed, as are the basketball courts in the park.

The park has also recently been part of a Playground Improvement Project, for which the funding was also used. These are the first significant upgrades to the playground in over two decades. Among the enhancements were taller slides and spinners, a zipline, and ramped access, as well as renovation of the fitness path, seating areas, and horseshoe courts. The surface of the playground was also enhanced for safety reasons.

Flyer printing can be used to inform residents and those of neighboring communities about such improvements and their benefits.

Completion of the pickleball courts is expected by the end of September.
