The Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra is planning two concerts of Baroque music in the Oakbrook Terrace area this month for its 55th season.
The first concert will take place at the Mayslake Peabody Estate in Oak Brook, while the second one will be at the home of the Orchestra at the Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church.
Both concerts will feature the music of such Baroque composers as Vivaldi and Telemann. Both programs will include Telemann's Concerto for Two Flutes in A minor, Vivaldi's Concerto for Two Oboes in C major, and Biber’s Battalia.
Also on the program are the ballet music of Les Indes gallants by Rameau, and Overture to Roland by Lully. Music by Charpentier, Desmarets, and Mouret will complete the program.
There are also scheduled special events for the 55th season of the Orchestra. The 20th anniversaries of the Concertmaster Rika Seko and Maestro Alltop will be celebrated. At the second concert, a bake sale will be held to benefit the youth outreach programs of the Orchestra that include visits by members of the Orchestra to elementary and junior high students. The Orchestra could create a banner for the bake sale, proceeds from which will support the Stanger Young Artists Auditions held every year.
The concert at the Mayslake Peabody Estate will begin at 2:30 pm on Saturday, January 16 while the concert at the church will take place beginning at 3:00 pm on Sunday, January 24.
