Big band dance to come to Oakbrook Terrace region

Oak Park Arms Senior Living will be hosting a spring dance with the Falconaires Big Band in a few days. Residents of nearby Oakbrook Terrace may be interested in attending this special event.

The music will be from the “Great American Songbook.” There is no charge to attend the dance, but reservations are required. Such events are often promoted throughout an area with poster printing.

The Falconaires was founded in 2008 by manager Al Tenuta. The focus of the orchestra has been on local festivals, private events, and retirement communities. Their music includes West and East Coast swing, the tango, rhumba, mambo, the foxtrot, and the waltz. There are 17 instrumentalists in the Falconaires, making it a big band orchestra.

Tenuta said that the main purpose of the orchestra is to entertain and educate to its audiences. He added that they also find the playing of their music to be deeply rewarding, the best part being when someone smiles after remarking that they remember a particular song. Tenuta went on to say that a performance is more than playing music. He is constantly watching the volume of the music and the choice of songs played depends on the audience.

The spring dance will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 pm this Saturday, April 22 in the ballroom at the Oak Park Arms on South Oak Park Avenue.
