A local park and preserve is planning guided tours that explore the area’s past, and Lyons residents are invited to attend.
The Chicago Portage National Historic Site Tours are opening registration to allow locals the opportunity to enjoy a guided tour that sheds light on the people who have called the Lyons area home. The guides will also discuss the origin stories of the city of Chicago at its birth site.
The guide will also look at the area’s geography and geology, and how its development made the Chicago Portage an ideal meeting place for several civilizations over thousands of years. The area’s history goes further, with attendees learning about the first humans to walk along the banks of the Des Plaines River. Flyer printing is an effective way to promote such tours and nature excursions through grassroots marketing tactics.
Other historical aspects guests will learn about on the guided tour include the fur trade’s success in Chicago, the ways in which the Chicago Portage made the city a hub for trade, and why Europeans were struck by the beaver population in the Lyons area.
The historic tour will embark at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 1, lasting around 90 minutes. Participants can meet at 4800 South Harlem Avenue in Lyons. Registration is free to interested parties and is open online.
