Sports complex finds new buyer

A corporate center is set to be built on the site of what used to be a dormant driving range and learning center for golf.

It took close to four years and up to five changes in the contract, but the former Libertyville Sports Complex finally has a new owner, Midwest Industrial Funds Inc., which hopes to develop the area into a warehouse and industrial building. The price has not been made public although the terms set in a resolution put before the village board shows that it must be at least 80% of the appraised value, which was $3.9m.

The village has been looking to sell the plot for some time, having deemed it surplus to requirements. The sales contract was originally written in 2018, but unforeseen circumstances forced the wording to be changed five times.

The initial plan called for a gas station to be built on the miniature golf course by a separate party, but this plan was eventually scrapped due to issues with access. The village has confirmed that it will listen to offers for the corner property and sell it separately.

The complex originally opened in 2002, with the mini-golf course as one of the main components. When buildings open or undergo a change of use, brochure printing companies often play a role in highlighting developments.
