Christopher Art Gallery located in Chicago Heights is encouraging artists to create pieces that evoke memories, whether they are about loss, good ideas from the past, nostalgia, nightmares, or other experiences.
Beth Shadur, gallery director, organized the applications for the juried show “Memory,” which began on January 2nd and will run through January 25th. The director explained that the submissions he received were a signal of how varied the concept of memory can be to people, with everything from the overt to the disturbing covered.
“Memory” showcases fiber art, acrylic prints, mixed media, modified and conventional photography, and sculptures by artists from places such as Libertyville, Arlington Heights, Palatine, Chicago, Evanston, Joliet, Westmont, and Park Forest. Flyer printing is often used to promote such events.
The 19 artists showing a total of 22 pieces in “Memory” are due to attend a ceremony today, where two Juror's Merit Awards and a Best of Show Award will be handed out.
Other shows set for this year include the Annual Spring Student Showcase of Art, which runs from April 22nd to May 15th, with a Humanities Festival and open reception on April 24th. Also, “Personification,” which features portraits by Julian Williams, Paul Branton, Ronit Bezalel, and Martin Giese, will be on from June 3rd to July 17th, with a reception on June 12th.
