Heavy rainfall in 2017 left large areas of Crane Boulevard in Libertyville under water. City officials responded by putting together plans to ensure that similar events which led to people kayaking in Nicholas-Dowden Park do not happen again. One of those plans is the Highlands Subdivision Flood Control project which will be completed for $6.4 million. Poster printing can be used to inform the public about ongoing public works and their expected completion dates.
The project will oversee the construction of a stormwater basin that covers 35.8 acres. The softball fields, storage buildings, batting cages, and a parking lot were dug up to accommodate the installation. New ball fields are currently being built and the sidewalk is being replaced as well. Jeff Cooper, the Libertyville Village Engineer, says that work on the project is proceeding on schedule. He also said:
"The earthwork has been essentially completed apart from some final grading. All major utility work has also been completed, which included various pipe connections into the newly-constructed basin, as well as substantial structure and box culvert improvements along Crane Boulevard."
The project is expected to restart early in 2023 when they build the last amenities such as the batting cages and storage building that will be used by the softball association.
