World Ballet Company brings Great Gatsby ballet to Joliet

The World Ballet Company will present an original production of “The Great Gatsby” ballet this October.

The event will offer audiences a theatrical reimagining of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic. Featuring a cast of international dancers, the performance will blend contemporary ballet with Broadway-inspired storytelling set in the Roaring Twenties.

The production will showcase choreography by Ilya Zhivoy, whose style reflects the emotional intensity of the story’s central romance. Anna Drubich, the composer, is known for her work on the Oscar-winning documentary Navalny. She will make her ballet debut with a score that echoes the Jazz Age’s vibrant rhythms. Costume designer Sonya Vartanyan will complement the era with handcrafted garments and Art Deco aesthetics that reflect the opulence and tragedy of Fitzgerald’s story.

The performance will run for two hours, including a 20-minute intermission, and is recommended for ages eight and older.

Tickets are priced at $89, $75, and $55, with additional fees applicable. Tickets are currently available for sale and can be purchased through the company’s official listing.
