A man from Joliet who served in the navy during World War II was recently reunited with one of his shipmates, and a filmmaker was inspired to share their story with the world.
Raymond DeVere Johnson wanted to know if any of the crew he had served with were still around, so his daughter helped him to make a Facebook post asking for help from anyone who might know of such a person. The post soon went viral, and they got a response from John Heimsoth in Missouri, who had also served on the ship during the war.
When he heard about their story, filmmaker Kyle Olson was inspired to share it. He reached out to the Johnson family, and both they and Brown agreed to have him film the meeting of the two former comrades.
Along with recording their reunion, the film follows the story of the men and their journey to meet one another. It also tells of their lives after the war, and how they moved on.
Titled ‘The Last Signal’, it is expected to premier in 2016. A poster printing company can produce a wide range of promotional materials that can help publicize the documentary to the public.
Brown’s daughter Cheryl said she learned a lot about her dad through the making of the documentary, and she was very moved at having the opportunity to help the two men get together and reminisce.
