No place like gnome in Joliet

The holiday season is quickly approaching, and as per traditions, the local theater will soon be presenting its 40th ‘Festival of Gnomes’.

Since 1976, a live large cast of ‘gnomes’ has been singing and dancing, telling the legends of the wee folks and their good works for nature and for man over one weekend each year.

Live music throughout the venue will add to the mystical atmosphere. ‘Gnomemade’ crafts will be in the gift shop, and tours through the cookie factory will be available. There will be a gnome doll raffle.

Guests are encouraged to wear their gnome hats and pick up their complementary tassels. These are different each year and can be collected to commemorate the years that the wearer has attended the event. For those attendees who do not have hats, they will be available for purchase. Pictures taken of ‘little gnomes’ in full regalia will make great Holiday Cards.

Everyone will want to mark their Calendars for either Saturday, December 3, when there will be performances at 1:00 pm and 3:30 pm or Sunday, December 4, which will have a single performance at 1:00 pm. The event will take place at Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park and Theatre, 201 Jefferson Street, here in Joliet. Tickets are $5 each and reservations are recommended.
