Local band to hold seasonal event

In a couple of days, the Joliet American Legion Band will be presenting its ‘Spring Concert’.

This will be a family-oriented night of high-spirited marches, classical selections, show tunes and contemporary pieces under the baton of Tom Drake. It will all be for a good cause.

The award-winning nonprofit, all-volunteer group has been around since 1946. It is composed of senior citizens, veterans, and students and has a sound reminiscent of traditional John Phillip Sousa. Over the years, the band has presented shows to seven presidents and has won 52 State and 38 National titles. It can be heard about four times a year throughout the area.

Anyone interested in sponsoring this event needed to get their information for the programs to band members by April 18, before the programs went to the band’s printing services.

Tickets will be $15 for adults and $10 for senior citizens and students. Tickets can be purchased through band members or at the door. All proceeds will go to the band. The event will be held rain or shine as it will be presented indoors.

The event is scheduled for this Saturday, April 30, from 6:30 pm until 8:30 am. There will be an intermission at which time refreshments may be purchased. The venue will be Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park, 201 W. Jefferson St. (at Bluff Street), Joliet.
