Joliet volunteers to help make households fire ready

An initiative administered by the Red Cross will help make sure every Joliet household has important fire safety devices.

A properly installed and functioning smoke detector can be a lifesaver in case a fire breaks out in a home. The Red Cross’ Sound the Alarm program installs smoke detectors in homes, and largely depends on the help of volunteers to do so. These helpers partner with community groups such as fire departments, and it may be a very rewarding experience for those who take part.

The activity first took place back in 2014, and its listing explained that it has installed detectors in more than one million residences since then. These devices are made available and installed at no cost, and there will also be information shared about the importance of creating an escape route and plan.

To help administer this initiative, the organizers will utilize the services of volunteers. These helpers receive full training, and it will take place rain or shine. Those who are interested can choose a time that works best for them. Volunteer information packets that include promotional Pens, a thank-you letter, and helpful information can be prepared by a brochure printing company.

This day dedicated to keeping everyone safe in case of household fires will be offered on March 23rd. Additional details about the locations can be found on the activity’s web listing.
