The city is reviving events such as the Waterway Daze Festival, as well as the Father’s Day Car Show and possibly the old Pumpkinfest, that were discontinued due to city cutbacks during the last recession.
Returning to Joliet, a one-day festival called Riverfest, a shortened version of the former three-day Waterway Daze, will be a celebration of the nation’s birthday, albeit a little later than the traditional July 4. Joliet families and friends are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets and arrive early to secure a good spot on the lawn for the fireworks display.
Vendors will be offering beverages, food, and summer treats for purchase. Joliet’s Venetian Night Lighted Boats parade will be on the river, and live music onshore will entertain the crowd.
Photographers with special lenses may be able to get excellent pictures of the fireworks for possible future poster printing, or for pictures that may be included in the town’s visitors’ guide Brochures.
The fun will begin at 6:00 pm and go until 10:30 pm at Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park, 201 West Jefferson Street this Saturday, July 23. Although admission to the park and parking will be free, all those who are going will want to remember to bring money for the food and drinks. The boat parade will begin at 7:00 pm, and fireworks along the river will get started at 9:30 pm.
