Creating a home landscape that is as tasty as it is beautiful may be a lot easier for those who take a seat for a Joliet area horticultural class.
Known as edible landscaping, choosing plants that can be used as food as well as for their beauty is becoming more popular. Master Gardener Gail Sanders will be sharing her secrets and top tips for creating a kitchen garden, and it is being hosted by the Darien Garden Club.
The session will open with some socializing and a raffle draw, and after that, it will be them for the presentation. Sanders will discuss how fruit and nut trees and shrubs, vegetable beds, and edible flowers can all complement one another in the home landscape. Many have attractive flowers, foliage, and Forms, and they may be combined into attractive plantings that offer four seasons of interest. This will be followed by the regular club meeting, and everyone is welcome to remain on site.
A presentation can combine providing information with introducing a club or organization to potential new members. A brochure printing company can supply materials to hand out to the crowd.
This easy introduction to edible gardening has been planned for Monday, March 6. Everyone who is interested is asked to arrive at 7214 South Cass Avenue in Darien by 6:30 pm.
