Joliet’s junior nature lovers have been invited to witness a “murder” this fall during an outdoor activity planned for those age 12 and up.
A flock of crows is known as a “murder”, and these birds will be the focus of a hike that will visit the woods at the Four Rivers Environmental Education Center. The participants will be asked to follow current masking protocols, and anyone who is age 17 or under will need to have an adult attend the function with them.
The group will hike along the trials at the venue, listening for the caws and other sounds of crows as they go. They will learn about their high level of intelligence, as well as the ways they use different calls to communicate, how they live in family groups, and other facts about these often misunderstood birds. There’s no fee being charged, and everyone who registers is asked to meet up at the site’s visitors center.
Creating interesting and engaging programming is one way a not-for-profit group can serve the community. Promoting the events may be made a lot easier thanks to assistance from area Print shops, which can provide a wide selection of marketing options.
The Four Rivers Environmental Education Center has made plans to offer this activity on October 2. The final date to register is September 30.
