Early history
Like many communities in Illinois and the Midwest, the French influence is apparent in Joliet. In 1834, James B. Campbell designed a village he called ‘Juliet’, a name locals had been using before Campbell arrived in the area.
It’s thought that Juliet was a corruption derived from Louis Jolliet, a French Canadian explorer who, in 1673, came to the area in company with Father Jacques Marquette. They rowed up the Des Plaines River to a site near the present-day city, with that area being named ‘Mound Jolliet’. The village was still called Juliet for a while, but in 1845 the name was changed to Joliet, with the city being incorporated in 1852.
The early story of this community might be recognized by the Joliet Area Historical Museum, which promotes understanding, awareness, and preservation of the diverse heritage found in this area. Museum management could work with brochure printers on a booklet explaining the early settlement of Joliet.
Waterways
The Des Plaines River has always been an important part of this area and continues to provide a channel for shipping, as well as opportunities for water sports. Surprisingly, for a city so close to a major metropolis, Joliet has many other waterways.
The city stretches across the DuPage and Des Plaines Rivers, as well as the Spring, Hickory, Aux Sable, and Jackson creeks. The historic Illinois and Michigan Canal also runs through the community. There are a number of small lakes in Joliet too, including Lake Juco, Leisure Lake, the Brandon Road Quarry, Michigan Beach, and Chase Lake.
The numerous waterways have led to a substantial boating industry here. Boat dealers, repair facilities, and others could work with flyer printing companies to make sure that they have handouts for potential customers, especially as the weather warms up and people take to the water again.
Other entertainment
Joliet is home to the Chicagoland Speedway, which hosts INDY Car Series and NASCAR races all summer. The track was opened in 2001 and is Illinois’ largest sports facility, frequently selling out its events. The speedway cost $130m, and among other attractions, is the home of the Richard Petty Driving Experience. Here, fans can ride with a professional racer or even drive a NASCAR car around the track themselves.
The speedway might work with a poster printing company to create colorful Posters for upcoming events.
Joliet, which has always had a manufacturing economy, also has retail establishments, with many in the Louis Joliet Mall. Anchor tenants here are Sears, J.C. Penney, Macy’s, and Carson Pirie Scott, with smaller stores, boutiques, restaurants, and a 14-screen CineMark movie house making up the balance. Tenants might want to work with banner printing companies when they have a special event to announce.
In addition, when enterprises move or change location, they should consider working with a business card printing company, as well as Stationery printers, to ensure that they have letterhead and promotional items that are up-to-date.Get a Free Quote for Stationery Get a Free Quote for Posters Get a Free Quote for Print
