Earth celebration coming to Joliet

The University of St. Francis will be presenting its Bluestem Earth Festival 2016 in a couple of weeks. Over 70 eco-friendly exhibits and vendors will be on hand to inform the public and offer food and items for sale.

Demonstrations and activities, along with music, food and children activities, will be awaiting the public. Food vendors will be selling items such as heirloom plants and vegetables, organic food, and all natural farm products. There will be fair trade crafts and all natural soaps. Beekeepers and Wildlife Rescue, New 2016 Solar and Natural Energy, Master Gardeners, and Upcycled Products will also be there. Everyone will want to remember to bring their digital Business Cards, or get some business card printing done before the event.

Children will get to enjoy making recycled craft projects, seeing a blacksmith demonstration, and visiting owls. There will be booths for pet adoption and plant pals. Ice cream and face painting will also be available. Handlers will be bringing animals such as a pot belly pig, a hedgehog, a sloth, giant sulcata tortoise, and baby chicks.

The Lions Club will be collecting hearing aids, used ink cartridges, pull tabs, cellphones, and keys.

Free to attend and focused on families, the festival will open at 10:00 am and run until 3:00 pm on Saturday, May 21. The University of St. Francis is located at 500 Wilcox Street, Joliet.
