Colorful event lights up the night

Joliet athletes can take part in a fun nighttime running event in about a week’s time.

The Color Run Night Version is a nationwide event that will be coming to the Chicagoland Speedway. During the untimed 5K race, participants are covered in color every kilometer.

At the start line, participants can enjoy the pre-race party with music, warmups, and giveaways. Then, along the 5K course, runners will see glowing color areas, bubble stations, a sparkle zone, and some surprises.

After the 5K, participants can hang out at the after party where there will be photo opportunities, colorful entertainment, and music and dancing. Banner printing was likely used to make large, colorful Signs for the event.

Registration costs $45 for individuals and $39.50 for teams of four or more. Children, aged five and under, cost $15. Participants will receive glowing shirts and tattoos, black light headlamps, and glow packets. Children five and under can participate free of charge, but they will not receive a race bib or swag.

Individuals can choose to register for the first ‘runners only’ wave. There is another option for those who want to run, walk, and dance their way to the finish line.

The run kicks off on September 5, with the first waves beginning around 7:45 pm. Every few minutes, another wave will be released until 8:30 pm.

Chicagoland Speedway is located on 500 Speedway Boulevard.
