Annual race event returns this autumn

Wish Upon a Star will host the "Spooktacular" Jack-O-Lantern Derby this October in Joliet.

The festivities will kick off at noon, with the race set to begin at 2:00 pm. Participants are encouraged to bring their most imaginative “Pumpkin Racers,” each created from an actual pumpkin and equipped with four wheels, which are included in the race set. Th wheels need to be connected by two distinct axles.

Prizes will be rewarded in several categories, including a trophy for the overall race winner, and awards for the People’s Choice, the Most Unique Design, and Wish’s Choice.

Registration for the event is now open, and those interested can sign up at the Wish Pumpkin Derby listing. The Pumpkin Racer entry fee is $50, with additional racers costing $40 each. These entry fees include admission to the Jack-O-Lantern Derby, a pumpkin racer set, showcase time prior to the race, and access to a complimentary picture station. Additionally, an optional Pumpkin Assembly service is available for $20.
