Scouts BSA Girls Troop 732, an all-girls Scouts troop, will be making its debut in Frankfort Square this month.
Earl Bonovich is one of the adult volunteers who founded the group and said that all girls between the ages of 11 and 17 are invited to join. Girls who are 10 years old can join the troop after completing the fifth grade. Being part of this group will offer them leadership and other experiences that were not available to them previously.
Bonovich added that the hope is to start with 10 girls and the founders are optimistic that they will be able to reach that goal. Those who sign up at the beginning will be able to earn badges immediately. Camping trips for the spring and summer are planned.
Information meetings were held over the previous three months to have questions answered about the program and the new troop, and to meet with other girls who are part of it. Brochure printing can be used for such sessions to provide more detailed information that people can take away with them after the meetings.
Beginning this month, the Boy Scouts will be changing its name to Scouts BSA and will enable troops to be either all girls or all boys, with at least one adult leader being female.
