Frankfort schools receive funds to improve school safety

Grants have been awarded by Will County aimed at strengthening safety in schools.

The total amount of these grants is $129,777, of which Hickory Creek Middle School received $2,235 and Summit Hill Junior High School received $4,500. Improved attendance and visitor management systems at these two Frankfort schools are supported by these grants.

Local Print shops can help spread the news about such funding and its benefits for students and the community with Flyers, Booklets, and other printed materials.

The funding for these awards comes from tax revenues on a controlled substance in the state of Illinois, which are received by the county and then allocated by the board of Will County for the 2026 fiscal year budget.

Joe VanDuyne, Will County Board Speaker, expressed his pleasure that the county is able to partner with local school districts to fund initiatives that protect students while they are learning in school.

A ceiling of $4,500 was established by the Will County Regional Office of Education to determine which schools were eligible for awards. The County Executive Office is in charge of grant management, which includes overseeing the grant agreements, technical assistance for school staff, and ensuring the funds are distributed.

Improvements are expected to be completed by Monday, November 30, which is the end of the fiscal year. Schools will be reimbursed for improvements by this day.
