Frankfort volunteer honored for contributions to forest district

The Volunteer of the Year is Kim Shehorn of Frankfort, who has made many contributions to the Forest Preserve District of Will County.

Announcements of such awards are often made known throughout a community with promotional poster printing.

Executive director of the Forest Preserve, Ralph Schultz, said that Shehorn volunteers with the conservation department and has helped with many public programs. He added that on a night where temperature were as low as 16°F with high tundra winds, she led an owl hike evening after a Habitat Management morning, and was smiling all the time, simply getting on with any tasks necessary.

Shehorn expressed her honor in being named Volunteer of the Year. She said that once she began a job in the corporate world, she found that volunteering for the Forest Preserve enabled her to regain a sense of community and add to her hobbies of hiking and gardening. She also said that the people who work for and volunteer with the Forest Preserve are an amazing collection of people who encourage others to get increasingly involved.

The volunteer supervisor of the Forest Preserve, Emily Kenny, said the district would not be able to continue its work without its volunteers. Kenny added that they are positive and kind, and enjoy spending time with the Forest Preserve.
