The splash pad at Commissioners Park is currently subject to upgrades and renovations.
A recirculation system for the water in the splash pad is among the upgrades being carried out. The water for the pad comes from a well that has a high iron content, which over the years has left a reddish tint on the pad. This new system will also improve the temperature of the water, with many parties, including the park district, describing it as cold. The splash pad will be resurfaced too, and the existing features and equipment on the splash pad will be replaced. Local Print shops can be hired to create Flyers and other printed materials outlining in greater detail the updates being made to such parks.
A fence will also be constructed around the area surrounding the splash pad while the updates and renovations are taking place. A portable restroom will also be made available at the park as the public restrooms connected to the office at the splash pad will be closed.
The park district has said that the splash pad was originally built in 2004 and has not been updated since.
A grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity is partially covering the cost of these upgrades and renovations, which are expected to be completed in time for the season next year.
