Village history
Frankfort dates back to 1855, but wasn't formally incorporated until 1879. The first inhabitants in the region were Native Americans of the Pottawatomie tribes, who were associated with the Ottawa and Chippewa, and who lived in the region from approximately 1700 to 1840. European land speculators came to the region in the 1800s, as did French fur trappers. As recently as 1820, about half of the Native Americans were of mixed blood.
The earliest European settlers were mostly of Scottish and English descent, with German settlers coming west from Pennsylvania to join the community. A gentlemen named Frederick Cappel named Frankfort after his birthplace, Frankfurt-Am-Main, in Germany. In addition, the Joliet and Northern Indiana Railroad came through Frankfort in 1855, and as often happened, growth ensued when transportation improved. The railroad called the Frankfort stop “Frankfort Station,” but the word “Station” was dropped from the village's name after incorporation.
The Frankfort Area Historical Society Museum helps preserve the village's history with official records, maps, photos, and genealogies. Society officials of such organizations could work with brochure printers on a narrative summary of the village's history.
Frankfort's downtown
The downtown is designated as a Historic District, but instead of being carefully preserved, it's become the center of events in the city. The streetlights and appearance of the area make visitors feel like they've made a trip back to the 1890s, but the area is lively and fun, full of restaurants, boutiques, a kids' museum, and community events which welcome people of all ages.
People who run the small businesses here might like to work with Stationery printers to make certain their letterhead is attractive and up to date. They could also consider contacting a business card printing company to provide classic cards for employees.
The area is centered on Breidert Green, at Oak and Kansas Streets. Here, events are held year-round; a farmers' market is open in the warmer months, and concerts and films take place outdoors. Art fairs, craft festivals, a 5K run and a Fine Arts Fair also take place here. When the weather starts to cool off, people look forward to a winter festival.
All of these events are fun and festive, and could be even more colorful if the sponsors worked with banner printing companies to create colorful Banners that reflect the type of event. For instance, the farmers' market could display flags with vegetables and flowers, while an art fair could display Banners that resemble paintings.
Outdoor fun
A bike path known as the Old Plank Road Trail covers more than 20 miles through Frankfort, and allows riders to access the historic district. For those who would rather simply enjoy nature, Prairie Park has over 13 acres of plants, a pond for fishing, and an area of native prairie that has been preserved.
City officials of such places like to work with a flyer printing company to create a handout for distribution that includes a map of the trail, the park, and its connections to the downtown area.Get a Free Quote for Stationery Get a Free Quote for Banners Get a Free Quote for Print
