Tribute to iconic band coming to Edwardsville
The songs of one of the biggest bands of the 1970s and 1980s will be heard in Edwardsville soon.
Mr. Blue Sky is a tribute band for the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO). In addition to the music of the group, the tribute band uses special lighting and effects to recreate the experience of an actual ELO concert.
ELO formed in 1970, in Birmingham, England, and comprised Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne, with Bev Bevan on drums. Wood and Lynne formed ELO from their shared desire to write modern pop and rock songs that incorporated some classical overtones. During the band's early years, they often included woodwinds, horns, string basses, cellos, and violins, putting more emphasis on these classical instruments than on the guitar work.
Mr. Blue Sky is a song on one of their albums, as well as their tribute band. A review of one of this band's concerts said the group rocked the venue, bringing “great energy” and true “stage presence” to their show, and that they were living up to ELO itself. Their setlist included 21 songs, opening with “All Over the World” from “Xanadu” and finishing up with “Mr. Blue Sky.”
Mr. Blue Sky will be at Edwardsville's Wildey Theatre on February 29 at 8:00 pm. Due to demand, a second show, on February 29 at 2:00 pm, has been added to the schedule. Poster printing can provide attractive advertisements for events like this.
