Time to dance in Edwardsville
One of the most iconic of all shows to be performed during the holidays is on the schedule for Edwardsville.
Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville (SIUE) will be the venue for the classic ballet, “The Nutcracker.” The Turning Pointe Academy of Dance has created this version of the ballet, with young, local dancers featured in many roles. The ballet will also feature two professional guests: Ashley Hamann, formerly of the Missouri Ballet Theater; and Robert Poe, one of the founders of The Big Muddy Dance Company. Banner printing is a great method of devising decorations for events such as this.
The music to the world-famous ballet was written by Peter Tchaikovsky. The story is of the young girl, Clara, who is given a magical nutcracker on Christmas Eve. She falls asleep and dreams that her nutcracker is the leader of an army of toy soldiers who are battling a mouse army. In her dream, she travels to magical lands, such as the Land of Sweets and the Land of Snow, where various characters, such as the Sugar Plum Fairy, dance for her.
The Nutcracker will be performed in the university's Dunham Hall, on December 14 and 15. On the first day, there will be a matinee at 2:00 pm and an evening performance at 7:00 pm, and on the second, there will be a 2:00 pm matinee. The program is suitable for all ages.
