What's Happening in Edwardsville, IL…

Popular band returning to Edwardsville

A much-loved rock outfit is coming back to Edwardsville later this year.

Head East is a classic rock group that first formed in the local area. The founding members were Steve Huston, Larry Boyd, Roger Boyd, Danny Piper, and John Schitt; Larry, Roger, and John established the band while they were students at the University of Illinois, with Steve and Danny joining later. They were most successful in the 1970s, but their popularity gradually declined on both the East and West Coast, though they have remained consistently popular in the South and Midwest.

The song most associated with the band is “Never Been Any Reason,” which they released as a single in 1975. The song has been used on both the big and small screen, having been heard in the 2005 film “Sahara,” as well as 1993's “Dazed and Confused,” and on television in “Friday Night Lights” and “That '70s Show.” The Iowa Rock n' Roll Music Association inducted the band into their Hall of Fame in 2011.

A concert review says:

“. . . Head East blasted a set of straight ahead meat and potatoes rock and roll for the enthusiastic . . . crowd.”

Head East will be at the Wildey Theatre on July 23 and 24, with the performance at 8:00 pm on both nights. These performances are rescheduled from earlier dates, and tickets have already been transferred to the new days. Flyer printing can be used to publicize events like this.
