Plans for Route 66 Festival underway
Although the event is weeks away, Edwardsville is already planning its Route 66 Festival.
Companies through the area have already begun signing up to attend as vendors, or to sponsor the event. Although the classic car show and cruise is the main event of the festival, there will also be wine, beer, food, children's activities, art vendors, and two additional annual events: a bike ride and a 10K. The bike ride is designated as the ‘Trailnet Route 66 Bicycle Ride’, while the 10K is the ‘Metro Milers 10K Run’.
Edwardsville City Park will be the site of the festival, which takes place this summer. On the Saturday of the event, all beverages, food, children's booths, and art vendors are scheduled to open at 10:00 am, but things really kick off the preceding evening, with That 80s Band appearing at 6:30 pm. At 9:00 pm, Platinum Rock Legends follow.
A children's act will appear at 12:30 pm on Saturday, then the Mellow Dees play at 2:30 pm, with Hurricane Ruth appearing at 4:00 pm, and Blackwater Revival at 6:30 pm. The headliner for the weekend is the popular local group, Johnny Holzum & Well Hungarians. They are scheduled to play from 9:00 pm until the festival shuts down at 11:30 pm.
The dates of the festival are Friday and Saturday, June 10 and 11. Event organizers could create banners with “Route 66” on them to hang throughout the park the festival weekend.
