Nominations welcomed for university athletes
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) is taking nominations for the SIUE Soccer Alumni Service & Leadership Award, bearing former player and long-time supporter Tim Tighe’s name.
Tighe, a player on the university’s first men’s soccer team in 1967, has over the years maintained a strong connection with the program. It was Tighe who established the Jack Blake Award in 1997, honoring his co-captain during the undefeated 1970 season.
The Tim Tighe Service & Leadership Award was created in 2017 to recognize outstanding soccer alumni contributions that demonstrate commitment to the SIUE soccer legacy, exemplary service, engagement and leadership to the game or program, and engaging in activity that meaningfully impacts the community or campus.
Print shops are a source of generic as well as bespoke awards, plaques, and trophies that may be appropriate for awards like this.
The first Tim Tighe Award was presented to David Boyer in 2017. The following year Ed Huneke received the award and the last year it was presented, in 2019, it went to Tim Loughman.
The Tim Tighe Award will be given out at the Jack Blake Awards Ceremony being held at Event Space & Catering’s Arch View Room on April 22. A special recognition of the 50th anniversary of the 1972 national championship team will also take place.
Tickets are $50 and can be purchased by contacting SIUE Athletics Director of Development, Tad Middleton, at 618-444-9688 or emailing him at tmiddaa@siue.edu.
