What's Happening in Edwardsville, IL…

Mother Road festival straight ahead in Edwardsville

This year marks the 19th annual Mother Road celebration, and after months of organizing, plans have been finalized for the weekend festivities.

U.S. Route 66, which passes through Edwardsville, has become a pop culture that the city celebrates with a yearly festival. Established in 1926, the road runs 2,448 miles from Chicago to Santa Monica, passing through Illinois and six more states before reaching California. It inspired the 1960s television show ‘Route 66’, and the song ‘(Get Your Kicks on) Route 66’, composed by Bobby Troup in 1946.

There will be art vendors, a magic show suitable for children, live music, and a classic car cruise. In addition, wine, beer, and delicious food will be available throughout the event. Among the vendors is Recess Brewing, a local brewer that will be offering its Route 66 Pale Ale, which was inspired by the highway.

The Edwardsville Route 66 Festival is scheduled for June 10 and 11, which is this Friday and Saturday, at Edwardsville City Park. The fun starts at 5:00 pm on Friday evening. At 6:30 pm, That 80s Band will take the stage, followed by Platinum Rock Legends at 9:00 pm. Saturday's events include a 10K, a bicycle ride, trolley tours, more bands, magic, and the Classic Car Cruise.

Flyer printing companies can create handouts for visitors at events like this, listing events, times, and locations to make them easy to find.
