Edwardsville museum set for reopening

The Edwardsville Children’s Museum, which has been closed during September, is getting set for its reopening, according to an article in The Intelligencer.

The director of the museum, Abby Schwent, said the facility is closed each year for several weeks while it undergoes a deep cleaning. However, this year the closure was extended to give workers time to repaint and add a number of new exhibits. When changes like this are made to a facility, managements might consider using brochure printing to explain the new exhibits.

The repainting project was more than a simple touch-up, according to Schwent. The entire interior of the museum, floor to ceiling, was redone. She admits this was a major task but was one that left the museum looking “nice and fresh and clean.”

New construction includes an outdoor discovery garden, an interactive area where children can learn about nature firsthand. Another is the veterinary exhibit, which the Hawthorne Animal Hospital sponsored. The vet area is two stories tall, and features a bridge to the other side of the museum. Children can pretend to be vets, or work as groomers.

A new art studio will let children look at the work of various artists, and work on their own projects, which they can take home.

The grand re-opening of the museum is planned for this Saturday, October 13, after an unofficial reopening earlier in the week.
