Edwardsville dedicates event to iconic road
Route 66 is one of the most famous highways in the United States, having inspired a television series, and Edwardsville residents are now getting ready to celebrate the legendary road, which passes through the city, with a festival.
Attendees will be able to enjoy food from a number of vendors, purchase arts and crafts, sample domestic and craft beers, taste wine, and listen to live music.
The highlight of the event may be the classic car exhibit and cruise. Vintage autos will be on display about a block from the festival, at MCT Park and Ride, as well as Cassens Transport, then they will cruise down the streets of Edwardsville.
The Route 66 event runs for two days, Friday, June 12 and Saturday, June 13, in Edwardsville’s City Park. On Friday, live music starts at 6:30 pm, then at 9:00 pm the Well Hungarians appear and play until 11:30 pm. On Saturday, Babaloo, an act suitable for all ages, will appear from 12:30 pm until 6:30 pm; Dr. Zhivegas will start at 9:00 pm and play until 11:30 pm.
The classic cars will be on display from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm each day, with the cruise starting at 6:30 pm.
There is still room for sponsors and vendors, but the deadline for signup is May 10. Event organizers could work with a banner printing company on a welcome banner for the fete.
