Edwardsville businesses win awards

The Edwardsville/Glen Carbon Chamber of Commerce held its annual awards dinner on March 4, using the theme ‘Make a Name for Your Business’.

After dinner, as well as live and silent auctions, the Chamber presented awards to outstanding area businesses.

Rich Grogan, who owns and operates Grogan's Martial Arts and Fitness in Edwardsville, won Small Business of the Year. Grogan started his business in 1997, offering fitness classes and martial arts instruction, as well as exercise videos titled ‘Kick to Get Fit’.

Grogan's was a home-based business at first, but soon outgrew the location. In 2008, he moved to a larger building and changed the name to Grogan's Academy of Martial Arts. In the future, Grogan plans to make small renovations to the space, including adding more room for additional training, and offering an after-school program.

The award was presented by Cathy Hamilton who said Grogan's small company has been of vital importance to the community.

Hamilton also presented the Large Business of the Year award to Kevin Powers, CEO of The BANK of Edwardsville. The bank dates back to 1868, and Powers said he and his employees, some 350 people, were passionate about helping local businesses and consumers. The bank has a net worth of $175m.

Events like this can benefit if organizers work with a booklet printing company, which can create a booklet that details honorees businesses and contributions.
