What's Happening in Edwardsville, IL…

Amended ordinances increase food truck availability

The City Council of Edwardsville recently amended the Codified Ordinances in place to oversee mobile food truck operations within the city, expanding their range of operation.

The Ordinances concerning food trucks now allow licensed food trucks to be at events held on private commercial properties as well as at three city parks. The trucks are still prohibited from private property operation in a residential district unless a city-approved block party is in progress or a city-operated events is taking place.

In addition to having more areas of operation, food trucks may also operate longer hours. In most situations food trucks will now be permitted to serve food between the hours of 7 am – 2 pm. Special hours of operation are allowed in the M-1 Zone, which is the Light Manufacturing District; there they may sell food 24-hours a day.

Changes in hours of operation are frequently handled by having a print shop make flyers that can be included with patrons’ orders as well as being placed in key locations for distribution.

Food trucks are not new but over the last few years have undergone some changes. The recent pandemic has increased the patronage of food trucks in Edwardsville as it has elsewhere in the region. Moreover, restaurateurs are using food trucks to try out new concept and brick-and-mortar restaurants are using food trucks to introduce their brand into new areas and to new diners.
