Year-long celebrations to reach their conclusion
Crystal Lake was incorporated in 1914, and for the past year, residents and city officials have been celebrating that milestone with various events. However, the centennial is coming to a close in just a few days.
The closing event is a free, family-oriented celebration slated for downtown Crystal Lake, near the Raue Center for the Arts on Williams Street. There will be activities for the entire family, as well as live music, dancing, cupcakes, and entertainers. The main stage is located outside the Raue Center, and the day will kick off with the exuberant Hip Hop Explosion. Participants can learn a dance routine from some of Chicago's leading instructors.
The final lecture in a series called the ‘Crystal Lake Centennial Speaker Series’ will be given at 1 pm in the Raue Center's theater. The subject of the talk is ‘Union Cemetery’s Symbolism’. After this, mentalist Joe Diamond will perform, and then Aaron Shepley, mayor of Crystal Lake, will take the stage to look back over the year's festivities, and dedicate a time capsule. The final performance on the indoor stage will be Felix and Fingers and their dueling pianos.
The closing festival takes place September 14, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, with the lecture beginning at 1:00 pm. Festival organizers could work with a banner printing company to create a colorful, street-wide banner to decorate Williams Street for the day.
