Thornton's proposes gas station in Crystal Lake
Bluestone Single Tenant Properties, based in Chicago, has brought a proposal before the Crystal Lake Planning and Zoning Commission. Bluestone would like to put a Thornton's gas station in Crystal Lake, at the intersection of Rakow and Virginia roads. At this time, the proposal is simply that; the presentation was the first time the commission has seen the plans for the building.
If approved, the Thornton's would comprise a gas station that also features a car wash, truck fueling station, and convenience store. The site at the intersection offers 15 acres of space at its northwest corner.
Since the meeting was only to review the concept, no vote was taken. The petitioners are asking the zoning commission for both a rezoning as well as a special use permit to allow them to operate a gas station. They're also talking to the McHenry County Division of Transportation to decide where to place access points along Virginia and Rakow roads. The roads are under McHenry County jurisdiction.
Thornton's has 180 stations throughout the Midwest and South, in Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. In the local area, there are stations in Algonquin, Cary, and Lake in the Hills.
